Gator forward or reverse complaint

Had a Gator roll in today with the complaint: "no forward or reverse." At first, I thought maybe linkage or a simple switch issue, but nope, turned out to be deeper, I'm still tracing it down, but figured I'd toss it out here, so is anyone familiar with this on the Gator, need to know what the usual suspects are before I go full teardown mode. Appreciate any tips or war stories

That Gator problem with no forward or reverse is certainly a tough nut to crack. Issues within the drive belt system or clutches often bring those machines to a halt. Since a bit of time has passed since your post, did you manage to find what was ailing that machine?

So the tractor goes in gear but doesn't move or you can even put it in gear? I'd jack it up and spin the wheels while in gear, if possible. It's probably something transmission related. Maybe the cvt belt?

My Gator did the same thing last fall. In the end, it's a frozen secondary clutch. It wouldn't backshift at all. If your belt looks good and the linkage checks out, maybe crack open the clutches next.

It's usually a worn sheave on the secondary clutch, if it wouldn't engage either direction. I think it's worth popping it off before diving into the trans.

I'm betting on the hydrostatic trans, usually a bad control valve or worn pump or it's a simple linkage out of whack, but if you've ruled that out, start prepping for a rebuild or parts swap
