My pops gave me a XUV 620i gator 2008 and just like tht, I got a head scratcher here.
First off, I know I gotta bite the bullet and replace the shocks, front and back are shot.
But the real kicker is this loud popping sound I get whenever I crank the wheel hard.

Any bright ideas what that could be? Thanks guys!

Ball joints are prolly worn out. You got an old one there, too, mate. So expect under chassis parts needing replacement.

Nice hand-me-down! That pop when you crank the wheel could be CV joints or worn bushings, it is pretty common on older Gators, you can C\check the tie rods too while you're swapping shocks

Right, and since the shocks are shot too, its a good idea to inspect the whole suspension and steering components for play or damage. Getting those checked and replaced should help quiet things down and improve ride quality.

Could also be the sway bar bushings or tie rods if they're loose. My buddy had the same 620i and he swapped the CVs and it quieted right down. While you're doing the shocks, might be worth checking those joints for play.
